Sam Mills is a brand of gluten-free pasta made with 100% corn. It was founded in 1994 in Romania by the Sam Mills Company and it was introduced into Portugal by JMD in 2010.
Sam Mills gluten-free pasta has a lower GI and is easier to digest than traditional wheat pasta, thanks to the fact it is made entirely from corn. Furthermore, Sam Mills products contain no egg, sugar, dairy products, cholesterol, yeast, soya, sodium, colourants or preservatives. All this makes Sam Mills pasta ideal not just for those who suffer from celiac disease (gluten intolerance) but anyone who is trying to maintain a healthier and more balanced diet.
Despite the lack of gluten and other ingredients mentioned above, Sam Mills pasta has a perfect flavour that is very similar to that of wheat-based pasta. After boiling, they have a good texture and require an equal cooking time to that of regular pasta.

Celiac disease is a condition that is defined by an intolerance of and inability to digest gluten for which there is currently no cure. That said, it can be controlled – a gluten-free diet helps control the symptoms, allowing the sufferer to lead a normal life.
The symptoms are different in children and adults. Among children, the most common symptoms are vomiting, abdominal distension, chronic diarrhea or constipation, weight loss, failure to thrive, irritability and depression. In adults, as well as chronic diarrhea or constipation, symptoms can include flatulence, chronic fatigue, anemia, calcium, magnesium and potassium deficiencies, recurring sores, infertility, changes to the menstrual cycle, miscarriages and bone aches.
Despite the lack of a permanent cure, effective control of the disease can be maintained through a balanced and gluten-free diet. This can, at times, be a difficult task: gluten is present in much of the food we regularly eat and alternatives are often expensive and difficult to find. Sam Mills is therefore a strong alternative, offering products at reasonable prices that are widely distributed. For this reason Sam Mills products are recommended by the Portuguese Celiac Association.
